EWMI is implementing the Rule of Law Program in Georgia, a five-year, USAID-funded program focused on strengthening the rule of law in Georgia. The Rule of Law Program is working to build the independence and effectiveness of justice sector institutions, enhance access to justice for all segments of society, and increase citizen and institutional oversight of justice sector institutions. An overarching goal of the Program is to promote people-centered justice in Georgia, including building community awareness of and trust in the justice system and ensuring courts are responsive to the needs of the community.

The Rule of Law Program will build on the success of EWMI’s previous USAID-funded rule of law programs in Georgia, the Judicial Independence and Empowerment Project and the Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia Project, by continuing to cooperate with government counterparts at the High Council of Justice, High School of Justice, Ministry of Justice, Legal Aid Service, and Public Defender’s Office, along with a range of civil society organizations. EWMI is also working with partners to implement the Rule of Law Program, including the International Legal Foundation, StreetLaw, the American Bar Association, the Center for Court Innovation, the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre, and Northwestern University.
