On September 16-17, the High School of Justice organized a training on general human rights concepts for 14 judges from Tbilisi and the regional courts of Georgia. The training program was developed with the support of EWMI's Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia (PROLoG) Activity and the Council of Europe in 2016, and serves to improve the understanding of Georgian judges in human rights matters, such as classes of rights, horizontal effects of rights, as well as application of human rights instruments and related case law by the Common Courts of Georgia. The training was conducted by two Georgian judge-trainers, Tbilisi City Court judges Aleksandre Iashvili and Irakli Kopaliani, who discussed international and European human rights protection mechanisms, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, and the practice of Georgia’s domestic courts.
